Agarsen ki Baoli is also known as Agar Sain ki Baoli or Ugrasen ki Baoli/ bawdi/vav is designated as a protected monument under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act of 1958 by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Agarsen ki Baoli is a 14th century structure nested in between the multi-storey buildings of Connaught Place in New Delhi. This Baoli is a 60 meter long and almost 15 meter wide historical step well located at the Hailey Road near CP, New Delhi.
According to the facts, this Baoli was originally constructed by the famous legendary King named Agrasen during the Mahabharata epic era. Baoli is actually a Hindi word which means a stepwell. In Earlier era, the reason behind the Baoli is to provide constant water supply to the city and is also considered as the best place for the travellers for resting. Agarsen ki Baoli is also a perfect water reservoir that is well-known for its heritage value.
Agarsen ki Baoli has different kind of structure which is quite varied from the common traditional round shape. This Baoli has three levels and each of the level has an arched area, which was actually used as a resting place for the travelers. The center of the step well has plenty of water and the water is also connected to a well dug in a well-covered platform.
