Odeon Big Cinemas


Opened in 1939, Odeon Cinema Hall in Connaught Place initially started with all English films in first six months. It’s central location and close surroundings with eating joints has made it very famous in the period of 1980s. From 2006, Odeon cinema hall has been shut down for almost 3 years (for renovation work). In August 2009, Odeon has now come up with all modern look including 2 luxurious screening rooms with a seating capacity for 592 people. The new refurbished look has came up in collaboration with Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG)-owned Big Cinemas. The Odeon Threatre of old time is now called “Odeon Big Cinemas”. The new look Odeon Big Cinemas offering luxurious customer facilities, a dynamic screen, giant auditorium with great ambience and also hold the honor of becoming the first multiplex in Connaught place (CP).

The Odeon Big Cinema is certainly not your regular multiplex, coming here is an experience in itself. For 70 years this cinema has been an integral part of the New Delhi’s movie traditions and has treated the movie goers to a myriad of exciting blockbuster experiences. After a stylish makeover that took three years, The Odeon reopened on 14 August 2008, with two luxurious screening halls and with state of the art equipment’s, facilities and an opulent interiors, which blends today’s audience requirements with the theatre’s nostalgic charm. One Auditorium seats 284 people and the other has the capacity of 308. The theme of the multiplex is inspired from the classy, pure white and up-market ambiance of Connaught place. Odeon Big cinemas leave no stone unturned, in order to uplift the guest’s journey and experience in both ambiance and offerings.

Right from the entry into the theatre, the customers can feel a difference. Instead of the usual makeshift half-screen security checks, it has private cubicle with a sheer curtain and a glittering carpet-like treatment at the entrance to a lobby. The staircase looks striking in black marble with an intricately designed crystal chandelier, while the upper lobby is all done in simple white and minimalistic gold interior. There’s also a digital poster wall projecting collage of movie images and soundless trailers, which further elevates the movie-going experience. The lighting inside the auditorium is detailed, with a golden amber glow that enhances the ambiance, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere. There even a side table placed near the plush sofa seats with menu cards and call buttons for personalized service. And also, for the first time the washrooms in a cinema have been designed to include special dressing rooms, accessorized with comfortable personalized seating and utilities.

Prices of tickets for weekday and weekend shows differ. On weekends (Friday-Sunday) post-1pm, Platinum seats (three sofa seat rows) cost Rs300 per ticket, the Gold seats Rs200 and the Silver seats (first three rows from the screen) Rs150.
